The situation in the Middle East has continued to deteriorate this weekend since my last update on Friday.

Yesterday, (Saturday, Feb. 22nd), an exchange of 6 Israeli hostages for over 600 Palestinian prisoners was scheduled to take place. However, after Hamas released the alleged remaining 6 live Israeli hostages, Israel refused to release the Palestinian prisoners as previously agreed upon, indefinitely.

They claimed that the reason was that the Israeli hostages’ handover ceremonies were “humiliating”.

Hamas responded that this was just an excuse to break their promise to release the Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas says Israel’s claim on hostages’ handover ceremony is pretext to evade its obligations

DUBAI, Feb 23 (Reuters) – Hamas on Sunday condemned Israel’s decision to postpone the release of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, saying its claim that the hostages’ handover ceremonies are “humiliating” was false and a pretext to evade Israel’s obligations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Netanyahu’s decision reflects a deliberate attempt to disrupt the agreement, represents a clear violation of its terms, and shows the occupation’s lack of reliability in implementing its obligations,” Ezzat El Rashq, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said in a statement.

Israel said earlier it was delaying the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners it had planned to free the day before until Hamas met its conditions, underscoring the fragility of the Gaza ceasefire accord. (Source.)

Then earlier today, Sunday, February 23rd, Netanyahu announced that they were sending tanks into the West Bank for the first time since 2002.

This follows the recent deportation of over 40,000 Palestinians from the West Bank in recent days, who have allegedly been told they cannot come back.

At least 40,000 Palestinians have been displaced from refugee camps in the northern occupied West Bank, and Israel’s defence minister says they will not be allowed to return.

For the first time since 2002, Israeli tanks have been deployed to the occupied West Bank as the military assault intensifies.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warns Israel is prepared to resume fighting in the Gaza Strip “at any moment” while vowing to complete the war’s goals “whether through negotiation or by other means”.

Hamas says Israel’s delay in releasing 620 Palestinians “at the agreed-upon time constitutes a blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement after it freed six Israeli captives. (Source.)

Meanwhile, in Beirut, Lebanon earlier today, tens of thousands of people turned out at a sports stadium for the funeral ceremonies of the two Hezbollah leaders who were assassinated by Israel, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine.

People from nearly 80 countries gathered in the Lebanese capital of Beirut to bid farewell to martyred leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine.

A momentous funeral procession was held on Sunday in Beirut for Hezbollah’s two late secretaries generals, leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine. The ceremony took place at Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, where tens of thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.

As the coffins of the two leaders entered the stadium, the crowd erupted in chants of allegiance, “Labbayka Ya Nasrallah” (At your service, Nasrallah), “We remain committed to the pledge, Nasrallah,” and “Far from us is humiliation.”

The stadium and the dozens of large screens and speakers spread throughout the Lebanese capital were echoing with iconic speeches made by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah as the world bid farewell to the great leaders.

The two leaders, in their caskets, donned with Hezbollah flags, were driven out onto the stadium as people could be seen crying and weeping out of sorrow over the great loss they endured. (Source.)

Palestinian school children returned to school in Gaza today, just in time for another mass polio vaccination campaign that began yesterday.

New polio vaccination campaign in Gaza aims to reach 600,000 children

A large-scale polio vaccination campaign was launched in Gaza on Saturday aiming to immunise approximately 600,000 Palestinian children under the age of 10.

The campaign is being conducted in collaboration with the Gaza Health Ministry, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).

In a statement, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said “another large scale vaccination campaign against polio started today (Saturday)”.

“Like in previous rounds and together with our partners, we aim to reach nearly 600,000 children under the age of 10 across the Gaza Strip,” said Lazzarini. (Source.)

This is the second mass polio campaign with Palestinian children in Gaza, as one was conducted last year as well.

Watch this video filmed by Al Jazeera of Palestinian children going back to school today, and take a good long look at the faces of these children, because within a few weeks most of them will probably be dead or crippled for life, if not by the vaccines, than by American bombs which will be launched by the IDF to clear out the remaining Palestinians so the Trump family can build their beach resorts in Gaza.

With all of this military action now occurring in the West Bank, where Jerusalem is located, we are now officially on a “Temple Watch”, as I fully expect the ceasefire in Gaza to end, and an expansion of the war in the West Bank, and ultimately the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, so that construction of a new Jewish temple can begin.
