Healthy Traditions Press Release

My online store, Healthy Traditions [2], started our Grass-fed Traditions product [3] line 20 years ago, featuring grass-fed meats and pastured poultry.

We were one of the first companies in the U.S. to start shipping such high quality meats and poultry (or any foods for that matter) direct to the consumer through our online store on the Internet, directly to consumers’ homes, using the power of the Internet to distribute these products nationwide.

Not even Amazon.com was shipping food back then in their early days.

20 years later now, the Internet is now no longer reliable, and subject to millions of cyberattacks every day, as I recently wrote:

Life Without the Internet? One Country Lost their Internet Cable to the World, and Life Reverted back to 1880 Standards [4]

Therefore, to help our customers achieve some food security in these current turbulent times, we are doing something this Fall that we have never done before. We are offering bulk purchases of our Grass-fed Traditions products that can be stored in freezers so that one can keep a steady inventory of high quality foods in their own homes, in the event of an Internet or power grid failure.

Having a backup power supply, like a generator, is also advisable to keep your freezer(s) running if the grid goes down for any length of time. A fully stocked freezer with frozen meats will stay frozen for many hours, where one would only need to turn them on for short periods of time to keep everything frozen in an extended down grid scenario.

We already announced our Bulk Beef opportunity to purchase half a cow [5] at a significant discount, and that opportunity will end on Sunday, October 19, 2023 (probably the day most of you will be reading this), as we are processing the cows a few days after that in the week ahead.

Many customers have already availed of this amazing offer, but we still have a few half cows available for purchase. See our previous article on this to learn more:

Pastured Poultry Raised on Pastures without Soy, Corn, or GMO ingredients in the Poultry Feed

When our family returned to the U.S. from the Philippines in 2002, we could not find the kind of chicken in stores that we were used to eating while living on a mountain farm in the Philippines in a rural area.

The local market there in the Philippines sold commercial chickens raised in chicken factories in Manila, but they were expensive, and most of the locals just butchered their own roosters from their own private flocks.

The younger the rooster the better, for tender meat, and there were almost always roosters available from someone (when we didn’t have any of our own), because one rooster can handle many hens and fertilize her eggs, making young roosters readily available for eating.

This is actually how our American forefathers raised and ate chicken, before they were bred to grow fast indoors in chicken factories. The farmer’s wife typically took care of the chickens and collecting their eggs each day, feeding them table scraps, and then occasionally slaughtering one to eat.

Poultry meat during these early days was MUCH more expensive than beef or pork, and usually reserved for the Sunday dinner.

Upon returning to the U.S. from the Philippines, we found that even the “organic” chickens sold in health food stores were raised primarily on soy-based feeds, and even if they were called “free range”, they were seldom outdoors, and even when they were, they were not on pasture with green grass, but just dirt.

We did not want chickens raised on soy, so we began to develop our own poultry feed that was soy-free, that we could use with pastured chickens, because chickens (broilers) cannot be 100% raised on pasture alone, but also need a high protein feed.

It took us about 2 years of research and development to test the new feed we were developing, in four different parts of the country with various climate conditions.

We were the first ones in the U.S. to develop a soy-free poultry ration for both layers and broilers, and now today most small-scale family farmers who raise pastured chickens outdoors use a similar type of ration that is soy-free.

In 2009, a professor from The Ohio State University contacted us, because one of her graduate students was doing a study on eggs, which was sponsored by Big Ag and the soybean industry, to find out if the soy protein (Isoflavones) passed from the soybean poultry feed into the tissues of chickens, and the yolks of eggs.

Since we had the only commercially available soy-free chicken feed on the market at the time, we supplied some to them, and they confirmed that once chickens were put on our soy-free feed, the soy protein in egg yolks and chicken tissue disappeared after several feedings.

Birds raised on soy-based poultry feeds passed the soy proteins into the chicken tissues and yolks of eggs, which was desirable for the soybean industry, but not to us and our customers who did not want it.

The full study is here [6].

Our original recipe contained coconut pulp, left over after extracting the oil to make Virgin Coconut Oil. But we stopped that some years back due to cost, and our feed today is not only soy-free but also corn-free.

This is one of the first videos we produced on our pastured chickens 15 years ago:

We only raise these chickens during the short Wisconsin summer times each year, and then process them all in the Fall and freeze them to sell through the next year.

This year’s batches are now all processed and frozen, so for a limited time we are offering our customers the opportunity to purchase them in bulk, 24 whole chickens weighing between 3.5 to 4.5 pounds, requiring approximately 11 cubic feet of freezer space.

If you have never purchased and tasted high quality chickens like this raised on pasture with a premium feed that contains no GMOs, with birds that are never vaccinated, you might be surprised at the cost compared to factory raised birds which never see the light of day and need to be vaccinated because they are mass produced, and are fed commercial feed with GMO and glyphosate contaminated grains.

But by purchasing in bulk, that cost is reduced by about 50% from buying just two or three at a time.

So if you want healthy REAL food in your food preparation plans in case it becomes scarce, instead of just packaged commodity food like MREs that you probably don’t eat regularly anyway and would make you even sicker in a national emergency situation, invest in some freezers and a generator and bulk up on healthy non-contaminated meats.

Frozen meats almost never go bad if kept frozen, and only diminish in quality after many years. I have 5-year-old Grass-fed Traditions whole chickens in my own freezer that I stored during COVID, and it still tastes as good today as when I stored it.
