The Myth that Robots are Replacing Humans in the Workplace is Becoming More Widely Understood

The Information [1] is one of the few sources in Tech who is willing to admit that AI and robots are over-hyped. And Nvidia is not the only one to use “a puppeteer behind the scenes”, as The Information reported [1], to guide a robot in public.

Elon Musk does it all the time at Tesla events. If Tesla had a fully functioning human-like robot in production, you can be sure one would be following Musk around everywhere he goes for advertisement.

That Tesla’s dancing robots are all fake and controlled behind the scenes by humans, is well known by many in the Tech field. Here is one article:

AI is NOT replacing American jobs. “Ghost” workers behind the scenes in places like India earning pennies on the dollar compared to what Americans make, are the ones replacing American jobs, at least in the Tech sector. And this has already been going on for quite a while, long before the current AI frenzy that started in 2023.

Here is an article I published about these millions of “Ghost” workers outside of the U.S. supporting American Big Tech back in 2021:

Here is the article about robots just published on The Information [1]:

Behind Many Robots, a Human Operator Toils

Amid the hype and hand-wringing about robots taking human jobs, a key fact has been overlooked: Many robots are at least partially operated by humans.

When Nvidia wanted to show off software for developing artificial intelligence at its flagship customer conference in March, it brought out a Star Wars–inspired robot that bobbed its head as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang talked to it.

“Stand right here,” said Huang, pointing to his side, and the knee-high robot waddled to the spot, receiving cheers and applause from the audience.

What Huang didn’t say was that “a puppeteer behind the scenes” was controlling the robot, according to a blog post from Disney, which developed it. The robot learned how to balance and walk in Nvidia’s computer simulation, but the human directed when and where it should go during its minuteslong cameo, according to a Disney spokesperson.

The display spotlighted an open secret among those working on robotics, a field supercharged in the last few years by AI advances and investments by heavyweights such as Tesla and Nvidia: Many robots are not as autonomous as they seem.

Whether they’re moving boxes in warehouses or schmoozing with tech CEOs, many robots aren’t smart enough to operate reliably and safely on their own. Instead, remote workers, sometimes miles away or even in another country, are controlling them.

To get to robots that can reliably operate every single day of the week, every week of the year, we’re going to need people supervising,”

said Jon Miller Schwartz, CEO of Ultra Robotics, whose remote operators puppeteer robots for packaging e-commerce orders.

At Tesla’s robotaxi event in Los Angeles last October, the electric carmaker’s humanoid Optimus robots served drinks, danced and mingled with guests. In the future, these robots can “be a teacher, babysit your kids,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk. “It can walk your dog, mow your lawn, get the groceries.”

But when guests asked the robots if they were autonomous, the humans operating the robots replied, “I am not fully autonomous. I’m being assisted by a human currently.”

On Musk’s X, Tesla has shown off the kind of VR headset and motion capture suit a person might wear to control Optimus.

MIT Report: 95 Percent of Organizations are Getting Zero Return from their Investments in Generative AI

People are waking up now to the AI hype, as this is quickly becoming a huge story in the financial and economic news sectors, especially after Sam Altman has now admitted that there is an AI bubble.

From the Financial Times [4]:

US tech stocks sold off on Tuesday as a wave of concerns that intense enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence could be overdone slammed into some of Wall Street’s most speculative companies.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite closed down 1.4 per cent, with software group Palantir falling 9.4 per cent and chipmaker Arm Holdings shedding 5 per cent.

The decline marked the biggest one-day drop for the index since August 1. The blue-chip S&P 500 closed 0.7 per cent lower.

Traders pinned some of the decline on a report released late on Monday by a branch of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in which researchers said that “95 per cent of organisations are getting zero return” from their investments in generative AI, the technology that has sent US stocks soaring to a series of record highs in recent months.

“The story is spooking people,” said one trader close to a multibillion-dollar US tech fund.

Just 5 per cent of integrated AI pilots are extracting millions in value, while the vast majority remain stuck with no measurable [profit and loss] impact,”

the MIT report said.

The stock drop also came days after OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman signaled that an AI bubble might be forming.

Are investors over excited? My opinion is yes,” Altman told reporters this week.

He also said:

“I do think some investors are likely to lose a lot of money, and I don’t want to minimise that, that sucks. There will be periods of irrational exuberance.”

If anyone was wondering why I have not covered the Trump meeting with Putin show in Alaska which has dominated the news cycle so far this week, here is a video report less than 5 minutes long which pretty much summarizes everything.

Remember, the corporate media is part of the entertainment industry, and controlled by huge financial interests as well as Intelligence Agencies who make sure the only news published there has been approved by them.

And when they are covering the actions and speech of politicians, especially, we should not take them seriously.

Sometimes the best coverage of the Corporate News actually comes from The Daily Diaper [5], because humor is a powerful and very effective healing force to relieve daily stress.

Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips.

“Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD.

O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us. (Psalms 12)
